The unified women's hockey team of the two Koreas has been eliminated on Monday in the first round of the Pyeongchang Olympic Winter Games, after being defeated by 0 to 8 against Sweden. The inter-Korean training was intended to be a symbol of rapprochement between North Korea and South Korea, technically at war since 1953 and in tension, especially in recent months by the ballistic and nuclear programs of the North Korean regime.
The Asian squad, which includes 12 players from North Korea and 23 South Koreans, suffered their second consecutive defeat in Group B, at the Kwandong Hockey Center in Gangneung, home of all ice events during the Olympic Games. Two days earlier, the Korean team had fallen to Switzerland also by 0 to 8. Korea needed to finish in the top two in Group B to advance. With the two defeats, he ran out of options even though he still has one game left against Japan.

On Sunday, the American Angela Ruggiero, member of the International Olympic Committee, requested the nomination for the Nobel Peace Prize for the team. "I would love for the team to receive the Nobel Peace Prize. We must recognize the sacrifice they have made to adjust to the competitions. As someone who has competed in four Olympic Games and who understands that it is not just about you, your team or your country, I have seen the power of what they did last night, "said Ruggiero.
Women's hockey is the first inter-Korean team since 1991, when table tennis players from both countries played the world championships in Japan, and soccer players participated in the U-20 World Cup in Portugal.
